Full Accessibility Support & Recording Improvements

This update brings comprehensive Apple accessibility support along with improvements to recording workflow and metadata handling, making Frames more accessible and efficient for all film photographers.

Apple Accessibility Features

Frames now supports key Apple accessibility features including Larger Text, Dark Interface, Differentiate Without Color Alone, Sufficient Contrast, and Reduced Motion. These features ensure the app is usable for photographers with different visual needs and preferences, maintaining full functionality regardless of accessibility settings.

Workflow and Metadata Improvements

The app now jumps directly into your new film roll as soon as it's created, streamlining your workflow. Labels throughout the app have been refined for better readability. Custom sequences now automatically fill min/max aperture values, which is particularly useful for metadata reintegration on Mac. We've also fixed motion issues in the recorder when capturing shots with the slider open and corrected value initialization problems in full recorder view.

Improvements (8)

  • Added support for Apple Larger Text accessibility feature
  • Added support for Dark Interface appearance
  • Added support for Differentiate Without Color Alone
  • Added support for Sufficient Contrast
  • Added support for Reduced Motion
  • Jump directly into new film rolls after creation for faster workflow
  • Improved label clarity throughout the app
  • Automatic fill of min/max aperture when using custom sequences

Fixes (2)

  • Recorder Motion Issue: Fixed motion issue in the recorder when a shot is captured with the slider open.
  • Recorder Value Initialization: Fixed an issue with values not initializing correctly when opening the recorder in full view.

Patches (1)

  • 1.7.1: Fixed lens display showing redundant aperture info in selection lists. Fixed frames being editable when editing was disabled.

Custom Shutter Speed Sequences & Map Improvements

Set custom shutter speed sequences per camera, showing only the speeds your camera actually supports. This update also brings improved map handling, additional shutter speed options, and export progress indicators.

Custom Shutter Speed Control

Configure which shutter speeds appear in the recorder slider and frame settings on a per-camera basis. If your camera only has speeds from 1/1000 to 1 second, you can hide the extended range options. This keeps your recorder interface clean and prevents accidentally logging speeds your camera doesn't support. Custom sequences sync with the Mac app for consistent metadata across devices.

Enhanced Map and Export Features

Map view now handles coordinates more reliably with improved gesture support for panning and zooming. We've added commonly used shutter speeds (1/160, 1/80, 1/40, 1/20) that were previously missing. Export operations now show a progress indicator so you know when your files are being generated before the share sheet appears.

Improvements (5)

  • Added custom shutter speed sequences per camera
  • Improved map coordinate handling and gesture support
  • Added missing shutter speeds: 1/160, 1/80, 1/40, and 1/20
  • Added export progress indicator before share sheet appears
  • Enhanced slider accuracy in recorder view

Fixes (1)

  • Recorder Slider Accuracy: Fixed recorder sliders to match both correct value and visual position.

New Film Stocks, Redesigned Aperture System & Lens Switching

This update expands the film stock library with new emulsions, completely redesigns aperture management with custom f-stop sequences, and adds the ability to switch lenses directly from the recorder.

Expanded Film Stock Library

The film stock list now includes Harman Phoenix II, Lucky Color 200, Leica Monopan 50, and several other popular emulsions. Whether you're shooting experimental color films or classic black and white stocks, Frames supports a wider range of film types for more accurate logging.

Redesigned Aperture Management

Aperture control has been completely rebuilt. You can now define custom f-stop sequences per lens, showing only the apertures your lens actually has. The recorder slider is now properly centered on the selected aperture value. Switch lenses directly from the recorder without leaving your workflow, and set focal length via the More button for zoom lenses or perspective control adjustments.

Improvements (7)

  • Expanded film stock library with Harman Phoenix II, Lucky Color 200, Leica Monopan 50, and more
  • Completely redesigned aperture management system
  • Added custom f-stop sequences per lens
  • Added lens switching directly from recorder
  • Focal length can now be adjusted via More button in recorder
  • Improved localization consistency
  • Minor performance enhancements throughout

Fixes (1)

  • Aperture Slider Centering: Fixed an issue where the aperture slider in the recorder wasn't properly centered on the selected value.

DNG Raw File Support

You can now import DNG files alongside JPEG and TIFF, and reintegrate metadata directly into your raw images for a complete analog photography workflow.

Raw image support arrives on Frames for macOS. Import DNG files alongside your existing JPEG and TIFF workflows, and embed your film roll metadata directly into raw files. This ensures your exposure settings, camera data, film stocks, and notes travel with your raw images through post-processing and archival. We've also fixed an issue where additional notes for a frame were not retained during metadata reintegration.

Improvements (3)

  • Added DNG raw file support
  • Full metadata reintegration for raw images
  • DNG files work seamlessly alongside JPEG and TIFF

Fixes (1)

  • Frame Notes Retention: Fixed an issue where additional notes for a frame were not retained during metadata reintegration.

Filter Support, Japanese & Korean Languages

Filters now appear in the sidebar and are automatically added to metadata when saving frames. This update also brings Japanese and Korean language support, plus important bug fixes.

Filters logged on iOS now display in the macOS sidebar and are automatically embedded into EXIF metadata during reintegration. This completes your analog documentation by including UV, ND, CPL, and other filters in your final images. Camera serial numbers are now included in metadata, and we've fixed a bug where flash values were inverted. Frames is now available in Japanese and Korean, matching the iOS language expansion.
